Eastern Mediterranean: A New Military Axis Against Turkey

The evidence is no longer circumstantial: Israel, Greece, and Cyprus are building a military architecture aimed squarely at containing Turkey, and Ankara would be reckless not to respond.

From Energy Rivalry to Military Bloc

The shift became explicit at a December 22 trilateral summit in Jerusalem, where Cypriot, Greek, and Israeli leaders stopped short of a formal defense pact but publicly committed to deepening joint defense and counterterrorism cooperation. Since then, the cooperation has moved from communiqué to hardware. Framework agreements now include a trilateral Joint Action Plan and a bilateral Greece-Israel Military Cooperation Program for 2026, covering joint operations, special-forces training, and strategic dialogue. Greece has purchased roughly $750 million in Israeli PULS rocket systems and is negotiating to buy an Israeli-linked air-defense project, worth billions of dollars, known as Achilles Shield, embedding Israeli technology directly into Greek and Cypriot force structures.

Beneath the headline purchases sits a quieter, more consequential layer: an interlocking technical architecture of anti-drone systems derived from Israel’s Iron Beam, cross-spectrum radar fusion, signal jamming, and sensor networks for detecting unmanned aircraft, now active across the eastern Aegean and Cypriot airspace, alongside a Maritime Cyber Security Center of Excellence that opened in Nicosia in February 2026. Joint exercises such as Noble Dina and Iniochos, once routine training programs, are increasingly turning out to be steps toward genuine operational integration........
