Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Asim Munir, on Wednesday, stated that sustainable peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan would only be possible if the Afghan Taliban regime renounced support for terrorist organisations operating against Pakistan.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir made these remarks during his visit to Wana in South Waziristan, where he reviewed the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness along the western border.

“Peace could only prevail between both sides if the Afghan Taliban renounced their support for terrorism and terrorist organisations,” the ISPR quoted him as saying.

During the visit, the army chief received a comprehensive briefing on the evolving security environment, ongoing intelligence-based operations, and measures in place to strengthen border management. He was also briefed in detail on Operation Ghazab lil-Haq and recent developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where tensions have escalated in recent weeks.

The ISPR stated that Field Marshal Munir interacted with officers and troops deployed in forward areas. He commended their unwavering professionalism, operational vigilance, and high morale amid ongoing skirmishes along the frontier. He lauded their steadfast commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Emphasising Pakistan’s concerns, the CDF said the use of Afghan soil by Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan for carrying out acts of terrorism against Pakistan was unacceptable. He reiterated that all necessary measures would be taken to neutralise threats emanating from across the border, underscoring the military’s resolve to counter cross-border terrorism.

The visit also included a solemn tribute to fallen soldiers. Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument in Wana to honour those who rendered supreme sacrifices in defence of the country. He offered Fateha and reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the martyrs remain the cornerstone of Pakistan’s security and resilience.

Upon arrival in Wana, the army chief was received by the Corps Commander Peshawar. The visit comes amid heightened tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, with cross-border operations and diplomatic efforts continuing alongside military measures to address security concerns.
