'I can't get to the award-winning Bury Market, so I get its very best fruit and veg delivered to my door'

Most people have heard of the award-winning Bury Market, but it's years since I've visited the place.

It's not particularly close to where I live and with weekends usually packed with other things and work making a midweek trip impossible, it's not easy to get there.

I'm sure a lot more people would shop at a market if they had more time on their hands.

But thankfully there is a way of sampling the goods without even having to leave your home as one of the stalls - Pete's Fruit and Veg - delivers right across Greater Manchester, free of charge.

For £25 you can get a box packed with all kinds of fruit and veg, which owner Pete Whelan Jr, who took over the stall from dad Pete Snr, collects from Manchester's Smithfield Market, in Openshaw, daily at 3am. A couple of Cheshire farmers supply him with stock too.

It first started selling the boxes towards the end of the pandemic and now - with customers looking for alternative ways to shop - the company shifts around 100 every single week and has kept the price the same throughout the cost of living crisis.

The ordering process couldn't be simpler. You can just message the Facebook page or send a text message to book a delivery and specific areas of Greater Manchester are covered on different days.
