On Tuesday, Home Depot announced a big renovation: Dr. Franziska “Fran” Bell will be their upcoming executive vice president and chief technology officer.

Bell brings a background in AI and data leadership, most recently serving as Ford Motor Company’s chief data, AI, and analytics officer. Previously, she was senior vice president of digital technology at BP.

“Fran is a respected leader in data science and AI, and she understands the power of technology to improve the customer experience. Her expertise will be invaluable as we invest to remove friction and make home improvement seamless for our associates and customers,” said Ted Decker, chair, president, and CEO of The Home Depot.

During her time at Ford, Bell rolled out multiple AI initiatives to spruce up the 120-year-old car company towards integration through design workflows, engineering, simulations, and quality assurance.

Bell is looking to advance Home Depot’s dip into AI technology and streamline experiences for both employees and customers. The company is pursuing an enterprise-wide integration of agentic AI and machine learning interconnected and data systems.

“I’ve always believed that the most powerful technology is the kind you don’t notice, because it’s busy behind the scenes making your life easier,” said Bell.

Much like other major companies and retailers, Home Depot hasn’t shied away from the AI craze, with a steady expansion throughout their company.
