Meta and YouTube deliberately used algorithms to make their products addictive. They must pay both compensatory and punitive damages to a young woman who used those products from age six. According to her lawsuit, her mental health suffered as a result. That’s the jury finding announced Wednesday in a watershed case in California Superior Court in Los Angeles County.

Meta must pay $4.2 million and Google (which owns YouTube) must pay $1.8 million, according to the jury. Six million dollars may seem like a nice windfall to the now........
