Why So Many Women Say Equal Pay Still Feels Out of Reach
Fresh data reveals why equal pay progress has stalled—and what employers can do to prevent gaps from widening.

Despite decades of slow progress toward paying men and women fair and equal wages for performing the same work duties, the gender pay gap persists. In the current political climate, where moves toward equality are under pressure, a new study shows that things aren’t getting better. Most people agree that the gender gap is a genuine issue, and also that men are better placed to get promotions than women are in the modern workplace.
The new investigation, from polling outfit AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, found that about half of U.S. adults feel men have many more chances for achieving competitive wages and advancement in their profession than women do. Fully 54 percent of the survey respondents said men are more likely to be paid well, compared to 41 percent who felt that men and women have “about the same opportunities.”
