The E.U.’s $1 Billion Fine to Google Carries a Warning for Every Business Leader

In response to the fine, Google said that the E.U. is ‘continuing to break everyday products.’

The European Commission ruled Thursday that Google had violated the bloc’s antitrust rules, and slapped the tech giant with a fine totaling €890 million, equivalent to about $1 billion. If Google refuses to play by the E.U.’s rules, the bloc also threatened to impose ongoing daily fines until Google complies. The fixes Google has to make to satisfy E.U. lawmakers and avoid further fines may benefit companies offering a slew of services that rival Google’s own, and even regular consumers who may be able to find cheaper deals served up by apps in the future.
