Women Absorbed All of July’s Job Losses. Here’s What the Number Doesn’t Tell You
The numbers are a signal about what’s driving women out and where they’re headed.

The overall economy lost 23,000 jobs this July. And women bore the brunt. They accounted for all of these losses, losing 32,000 jobs. Meanwhile, men gained 9,000 jobs.
That’s according to an analysis from the National Women’s Law Center jobs analysis of monthly data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS report shows losses were concentrated in hospitality and education, sectors where women are overrepresented. On top of that, about 165,000 women left the labor force in July —........
