Keir Starmer has insisted that he stands with Denmark after Donald Trump’s renewed threats to annex Greenland.

A day after the US president ordered military strikes on Venezuela and seized its president Nicolas Maduro, Trump told The Atlantic: “We do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defence.”

Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen hit back, insisting the US “has no right” to take over Greenland at the weekend.

She said: “The US has no right to annex any of the three countries in the Danish Kingdom.
