'Vulgar, Like Trump': Critics Pan 'Grotesque' Image Of Planned White House Ballroom

President Donald Trump’s planned ballroom at the White House isn’t getting rave reviews from critics on social media.

The 90,000-square-foot ballroom, announced over the summer, will dwarf the White House main residence, which is 55,000 square feet, not counting the East Wing and West Wing.

CBS News obtained new renderings:

New renderings show more details of the 90,000 square foot White House ballroom under construction. The existing WH building (not counting the east and west wings) is about 55,000 sq. ft. w/ @JenniferJJacobshttps://t.co/BnF2cqs5eJ

Trump said in July the ballroom would be funded “by donors or whatever” and not taxpayer dollars.

But critics noted that the oversized building stands as a monument to excess at a time when Trump has slashed federal programmes in medical research, education, food and health care.

The new ballroom also comes as Trump puts his personal touch on nearly every part of the White House. He paved over some of the Rose Garden for a patio, redecorated interior spaces, including the Oval Office and added two giant flagpoles to the lawn.

But mostly, they really didn’t love the image of the monumental ballroom towering over the White House:

Anyone who has ever seen Trump’s gaudy & grotesque Taj Mahal casino will not be shocked at how gaudy & grotesque this ballroom will be. It is vulgar, just like Trump. https://t.co/cQe00Tm5Zl
