Disgruntled cinemagoers have been moaning about the sound levels of Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster since its release.

This action-packed epic is far too loud, they say, and the almighty racket made by mythical creatures and A-list actors is apparently enough to induce anything from ringing ears to full-blown migraines.

I’m off to see The Odyssey this weekend, but can’t say I’m all that put off by the prospect of booming bass or a cyclops’ distorted dialogue.

I have, however, made the conscious decision to avoid any bougie boutique cinemas when booking tickets, for reasons that have nothing to do with speaker quality. It’s because I refuse to be wedged into a seat beside anyone who thinks it’s acceptable to indulge in a full meal during a film.
