Must Scotland consult Nostradamus to find out how we hold another referendum?
The UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves says there won’t be another vote even if the SNP wins a majority at Holyrood in May – that’s a democratic outrage, our Writer at Large argues.
Maybe the answer to how Scotland ever obtains another independence referendum is hidden within one of those mystic quatrains written by Nostradamus.
‘Only when the moon is in the seventh house,
and Jupiter aligns with Mars,
Shall the land of the Caledonians
once more witness the ancient rites of indyref’
We will have to divine, by scrying mirror and forbidden discourse with necromantic spirits perhaps, how democracy is supposed to work… because, sure as hell, whatever passes for government in London is determined to keep this nation in the condition of a medieval wife: submissive, without agency, and obedient.
Rachel Reeves tells us there will be no second referendum even if the SNP secures a majority at next May’s Holyrood election.
The fact that it’s a reject from Abigail’s Party acting with the imperiousness of Bourbon royalty makes the insult all the more biting and absurd.
If the UK was ruled by titanic talents – giants of such charisma that you had to shield your eyes from the glare of their magnificence – then perhaps, just perhaps, this egregious slight might feel more balanced in terms of the message and the messenger.
