As debate intensifies around UK electricity market reform, the Scottish Government has yet to clarify its stance on one of the most contentious proposals: zonal pricing.

Some SNP figures have promoted zonal pricing as a solution to high energy bills, but ministers insist more analysis is needed to determine if it would deliver real savings. With net zero targets looming, the Scottish Government must set out a clear and credible stance sooner rather than later.

While electricity market reform is ultimately a matter reserved to Westminster, the SNP’s position will carry weight. There’s also a political calculation to be made here. If the proposed changes have unintended consequences for Scotland, the party will not be able to distance itself from the fallout.........
