Tomorrow, the Scottish Government is going to publish something that will, almost without doubt, attract not just quite a bit of attention, but also a significant helping of mindless and confected outrage.

The material in question is the result of a consultation on new guidance regarding the Relationship, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) education in Scotland – or sex ed, if we feel like being overly reductionist.

Let’s face it: some people are going to try to use this to get attention, cause division and, from the media side, generate clicks.

They’ll tell you that the Scottish Government is attacking families, discriminating against Catholics, seeking to erase women, and probably a whole load of other absurd, bad-faith nonsense. We could probably take bets on who will be first to try to twist it all into an attack on trans kids.

I honestly won’t be all that shocked to see someone claim this new guidance, or the consultation around it, is what’s really behind the Ukraine war, or that it’s part of a global conspiracy that also involves weather control........
