‘Absolutely amazing countries’ see surge in bookings at Scottish travel agent
Tourism has been in focus, writes Business Editor Ian McConnell, with a Scottish travel agent flagging a surge in bookings to 'absolutely amazing countries’ in an exclusive interview.
Meanwhile, a senior executive in the group which owns a famous Scottish hotel highlighted his belief in another exclusive interview that Scotland’s appeal to overseas visitors has in recent years been extending beyond traditional tourist hubs.
Tourism – inbound and outbound – has been a focus in the last week.
And there seems to be plenty to be enthusiastic about on both fronts.
It was interesting to hear the views on the Scottish tourism scene of a senior executive of the Dubai-based group which owns the JA Mar Hall golf and spa resort near Glasgow.
JA Resorts & Hotels vice-president of sales Philip Dickinson, in an exclusive interview with The Herald, highlighted his belief that Scotland’s appeal to overseas visitors has in recent years been extending beyond traditional tourist hubs.
Asked about Scotland’s allure as a destination for overseas tourists and whether he believed this had increased, reduced or stayed the same in recent years, Mr Dickinson replied: “Scotland has maintained a strong and enduring appeal among international travellers for decades - the dramatic landscapes, rich heritage and cultural authenticity create a depth of experience that goes beyond the typical European stay, with historic estates, vibrant cities and world-renowned golf courses.”
He added: “What’s notable in recent years is that Scotland’s appeal is extending beyond traditional tourist hubs such as Edinburgh and the Highlands, as visitors increasingly seek to explore more of the country. Cities like Glasgow and the rural areas of the........
