How a ceilidh in Baltimore showed Scotland’s heart
A new Scottish musical has captivated Baltimore with its heartfelt storytelling and vibrant energy—showing how Scotland’s creative spirit continues to build global connections through art, music, and shared experience, says Ian Houston
I recently arrived at the M&T Bank Exchange at The France-Merrick Performance Arts Center in Baltimore with an energetic spirit and excited anticipation for what I knew was going to be an uplifting performance. This was Opening Night in a city I love for the new Scottish musical experience Ceilidh written by two exceptional Scots.
More than a show, Ceilidh is a gathering of hearts, a rhythmic pulse of story and song, a celebration of connection. It is a reminder that Scotland’s creativity—its music, dance, and storytelling—is a remarkable cultural export that captivates audiences far beyond its shores. I often say the brand of Scotland pulls people in around the globe like few others – stirring goodwill and fostering positive feelings.
From the moment the lights rose, the Baltimore audience was drawn into a warm, touching world crafted by the imaginative brilliance of Noisemaker, the artistic duo of Scott Gilmour and Claire McKenzie. Both alumni of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Scott and Claire have long gifted audiences with music and storytelling........
