We can’t rely solely on community goodwill to secure good public mental health

Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading the annual Mental Health Awareness Week throughout the UK, with a focus on achieving good mental health for everyone. This year’s week runs until Sunday with "community" as its theme.

In increasingly uncertain times, being part of a safe, positive and welcoming community is vital for everyone’s mental health and wellbeing.

Mental Health Awareness Week is therefore an opportunity to promote the power and importance of community. We’re providing information and guidance on how community supports good mental health, highlighting ideas for how to cultivate mentally healthy communities, sharing inspiring stories from communities across Scotland and elsewhere in the UK, and encouraging people and organisations to get involved with activities and events.

There’s much to celebrate in the pivotal roles that our communities of place and of interest play in protecting........
