Every year a global "theme" for International Women’s Day is selected. Some years, I imagine that campaigners must agonise to find the right messaging that will register across such vast geography. This year, I suspect there will have been little need for deliberation.

The 2025 call to women, men, and governments is to "Accelerate Action" on gender equality. We are at a critical moment for women’s rights and those of minorities globally. Hard-won progress, painstakingly secured by feminist and social justice movements over generations, is facing a level of threat and pushback that is unprecedented in the last 50 years.
