My challenge is to make sure Scotland gets AI's benefits without the downsides
Let's be honest. Some of the hype on AI can be baffling.
One moment it's going to change our lives, the next kill us all, and then we're chuckling at the latest meme it's generated of our friends.
We're bewildered as it hallucinates basic facts. Then we get frustrated at all the talk about its life-changing potential when we still have to do our own laundry and dishes while it gets to do the fun stuff like writing and art, impacting on our creative friends.
So there's a degree of scepticism out there before we start. I get it. It is a newly used, little-understood technology.

While it has been taught as a research subject in Scotland since the 1960s, we've only recently had the processing capability to deliver on its potential and we're all trying to adapt to using it.
Some of the loudest voices are problematic. There are concerns about sovereignty and who owns it, who it is accountable to, and the energy and environmental needs of the infrastructure required to make it work — and who'll own that.
But for all this........
