Matter of priority
A culture of rearing cats and dogs, unlike traditional livestock, has started in Kashmir especially in Srinagar city. With human population showing a glaring decrease, pet population has increased tremendously during the recent past manifesting its natural behavioural repercussions in animal bites and bite related threats. As per the Anti-Rabies Clinic SMHS, Hospital Srinagar data cat bites rose from 1178 in 2022 to 4200 in 2024 and over 6500 in 2025 making a shocking 452 percent increase over the past three years.
