A Message for the Broken Heart

There was a man who had reached a point where hope felt like a stranger. Outwardly, his life seemed ordinary; he worked, spoke to people, and fulfilled responsibilities; but inwardly he was exhausted. What troubled him most was not the loss itself, but the feeling that Allah had grown distant. He continued to pray, but his prayers felt heavy. He fasted, yet his heart felt empty. Each unanswered supplication added to his fear that perhaps he was no longer worthy of Allah’s attention. In his loneliness, he began to believe the most dangerous thought of all: “Maybe Allah has left me.” One evening in Ramazan, after breaking his fast alone, he sat quietly with a Qur’an he had not opened for weeks. There was no intention of deep study, no strength for long reflection. He simply opened a page at random. His eyes fell upon Surah Ad-Duha.

As he began to read, the first words caught him off guard; not with command, but with calm. The oath by the morning light and the stillness of the night felt familiar. His own life seemed to be moving through a long night, waiting for dawn. Then his eyes reached the verse that changed everything: “Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He become displeased.” There are moments in life when silence feels heavy. When prayers seem unanswered, when doors remain closed despite effort, and when the heart quietly asks, “Has Allah had forgotten me?” These moments do not belong to one person or one era; they are part of the human journey.
