Understanding Migraine

Every day across Kashmir, thousands silently battle a disease that remains largely misunderstood, frequently dismissed, and often inadequately treated. Migraine is not merely a headache. It is a neurological disorder capable of bringing life to a standstill, forcing students to abandon books, professionals to miss work, mothers to withdraw from their families, and young individuals to retreat into dark rooms while the world outside carries on.Far from being a local problem, migraine is one of the world’s leading causes of disability. According to the Global Burden of Disease Study, migraine ranks among the leading causes of years lived with disability worldwide and is the foremost cause of disability among young women. More than one billion people are estimated to suffer from migraine globally, imposing an enormous social, economic, and healthcare burden. Despite these staggering numbers, migraine continues to be underdiagnosed, undertreated, and frequently trivialized.

Yet despite its enormous burden, migraine continues to exist in the shadows of public health discussions.Kashmir presents a perfect breeding ground for migraine attacks. Unpredictable weather changes, prolonged winters, disrupted sleep cycles, increasing psychological stress, excessive screen exposure, and hectic lifestyles all contribute to triggering attacks.
