The transformation of Srinagar under the Smart City Mission has been remarkable. Over the past few years, the city has acquired a fresh and attractive look. Areas such as Lal Chowk, Boulevard Road, the old city, public parks, gardens, and riverfronts have been beautified through improved infrastructure, decorative lighting, landscaping, flower arrangements, and better public facilities. These developments have enhanced the experience of both residents and tourists and have added a new charm to the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

There is no doubt that these efforts deserve appreciation. A clean, attractive, and well-planned city creates a positive impression and improves the quality of life. However, while Srinagar is becoming smarter in appearance, there is an opportunity to make it smarter in thought as well. One simple yet powerful way of achieving this is by establishing “Science Walls” at prominent public places across the city.Science Walls are educational displays designed to bring science closer to ordinary people. They can contain portraits of great scientists, brief accounts of their discoveries, scientific facts, inspirational quotations, diagrams, illustrations, and simple explanations of scientific principles. These walls can transform ordinary public spaces into places of learning and inspiration.

Such Science Walls can be installed at bus stops, railway stations, airports, hospitals, parks, Mughal Gardens, pedestrian walkways, educational institutions, Lal Chowk, Ghanta Ghar, Boulevard Road, and other locations frequently visited by the public. Every day, thousands of people pass through these places. Even a few minutes spent reading a scientific display can create curiosity and encourage learning.Consider a young student waiting for a bus.
