Four Point Mantra

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has laid new fundamentals of the border security in the country. This Quadrangular Security Grid demands that the Public, Civil Administration, Military and BSF stand together, as it will not be merely border security, but comprehensive “Territorial Security” of the country. This, in fact, represents an all-inclusive approach toward national security, from borders to the hinterland.

On the face of it, it invokes the active participation of the people, the institutions of civil administration, the Indian Army and the Border Security Forceto ensure national security, in which borders are not seen in isolation, but as an integral part of the security grid. No institution and no demography is to be left behind. This is the essence of the mantra that the Home Minister spelled out during his visit to BSF outposts in Gujarat on may 29, 2026. This region is famous for its marshy lands and the security needs at Sir Creek.

I am tempted to look at this mantra through the prism of Jammu and Kashmir, and toexamine how pivotal the region is to national security. J&K is not merely a border region per se It has been bearing the impact of the porous borders, roughly divided into the International Border and the Line of Control. It is a reality of the times as of now.
