This past November, the Pew Research Center published some really interesting data about American attitudes towards aging. Specifically, the research compared and contrasted how Americans expect to experience aging versus how we're actually aging and found a notable divide in perception and expectations. Nearly half of adults ages 65 and older said they are aging extremely or very well, but only 30% of those younger than 65 expect to age similarly well. Another part of the study asked adults ages 65 and older to give advice to younger people... and I raise this today because this very concept is at the core of two Forbes projects that I’m excited to share with you.
The first of those projects is something called The Exchange, a video series where we pair one leader from the Forbes 50 Over 50 list with a founder from the same industry hailing from the 30 Under 30 list. These founders come into the conversation cold; the idea behind The Exchange is to cultivate a connection in real time, between two people whose work is similar but whose life experiences may be very different.
Our pilot episode features two architects who fit this brief: Diana Kellogg, a founder and architect from the 50 Over 50 list, sat down with 30 Under 30 lister and architect Prasanna Lachagari, and the result (if I say so myself) was kismet. I don’t want to give away the best bits but I will tease this much: Mid-conversation, one woman realized that the architect sitting across from her was the brains behind a piece of award-winning architecture........
