The bar to make the Forbes 400 list of America’s richest people is higher than ever.

It now takes a $4.4 billion fortune to land a spot on the ranking, $600 million more than last year, amid the AI and data center boom. This year’s Forbes 400 is collectively richer than ever at $8 trillion, up from $6.6 trillion in 2025. Elon Musk once again tops the list, with his fortune having doubled over the last year.

Musk was the biggest gainer in sheer dollars, but venture capitalist Josh Kushner saw his fortune grow by the highest percentage—more than 220%. And despite the high threshold, 34 newcomers made the list, including more than a dozen AI moguls.
