BIGGER PICTURE: Geneva's new ticket master
There is a new ticket master in the city of Geneva. The official title is Parking Enforcement Officer.
Jeremiah Gardiner, 19, took over the position in August when William “Ted” Slywka left the job after 24 years of service.
I had taken photos of Jeremiah playing on the Geneva High School varsity soccer team in 2024. The first time I actually spoke to him was shortly after he started making his rounds along the city streets, marking tires and ticketing violators.
What drew my attention to him was that he was standing by a car that was being towed from Exchange Street. I said to him that I’d never seen that before in Geneva, so what’s the story?
It was being towed because there were nine unpaid tickets attached to that driver. The car owner had been given a break because generally cars should be towed after seven unpaid ones. I said “good for you,” as he was obviously pretty serious about his new job.
Jeremiah was one of three........
