America’s worker-in-chief, Donald J. Trump, does much of his — it would be wrong to say best work — but at least his most busy work after midnight and on into the wee hours of the morning. In 2008, Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign against Barack Obama ran a famous ad asking voters who they wanted answering when the White House phone rang at three in the morning. A modern-day Republican riposte would probably say: “Not to worry: Donald Trump has been up for hours and is wide awake.”
