Just about everybody agrees the global economic system is in turmoil, maybe even falling apart, but certainly roiling under the erratic and unpredictable president of the world’s largest economy. With the alleged objective of pulling it back together this week in Davos, the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting bears the optimistic title: “The Spirit of Dialogue.”

That call for dialogue issued to 3,000 government, corporate and activist leaders was reinforced at the WEF’s opening musical performed by U.S. pop star Jon Batiste, multi-talented former leader of the house band on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. At the WEF on Monday, Batiste issued his own message to a rock beat: ”Everybody. Just tell the truth. It’s a lot of ideas exchange going on over here in Davos. A lot of money flowing around and changing hands. But just remember … everything is all connected. And when you’re doing what you do, like my grandmamma said: Just tell the truth, tell the truth, tell the truth!”
