More colloquially described, it is when the cure is worse than the disease.

I raise the term because, in many ways, it accurately characterizes the efforts of some Edmontonians to try to persuade the Alberta government to override municipal decision making.

Yes, truth be told, this UCP regime hasn’t really needed much encouragement to interfere. Yet it is still disturbing to see some residents cheering them on and urging them to go further, since what they are essentially advocating for is a violation of good governance and democratic respect.
