Could this Broads spot become government's next officially designated bathing site?
The River Waveney Trust (RWT) has partnered with Beccles Town Council and Beccles Lido to start a citizen-led bathing water monitoring scheme at Waveney Meadow just upstream of the town centre.
Volunteers took their first water samples this week, which will be tested for E. coli, enterococci and other coliform bacteria.
The project follows the success of Falcon Meadow in Bungay which became a designated bathing site earlier this year (Image: River Waveney Trust)
The results will be used to assess water quality and could eventually support an application to the government for designated bathing water status.
