The 60-year-old, who keeps pigs and runs a scrap business on Town Lane in Garvestone, near Dereham, appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court via video link as part of a bail application to be released until his trial.

Ralph Gilliam, defending, put forward a series of bail proposed conditions including an alternative address in Dereham and an exclusion area monitored by him wearing an electronic tag.

Magistrates refused the application and ordered he remain in custody, telling him: “We are not convinced our fears can be alleviated with any bail conditions.”

The court was told a further bail hearing would be held on May 14. A date was set for his trial to take place on June 1.

He could face a sentence with a starting point of 18 months if convicted.
