Speaking as Adnams of Southwold published its annual results for last year, Simon Townsend described how the company was controlling its cash "extremely tightly" to maintain liquidity.

"While painful, these actions have been absolutely essential to provide the company with a solid base from which to restore profitable growth," he said.

The business has been striving to cut its hefty borrowings which dropped from £15.3m in 2024 to £9.2m last year as it shed "non-core" assets.

These included The King's Head Inn in Orford and the White Horse Inn at Westleton, near Yoxford which were offered up for sale for £525k and £400k respectively last year.

Latest company results show the company's pre-tax losses falling from £2.8m in 2024 to £0.7m last year as a result of the moves.

At the same time operating profits grew from a £1.2m loss in 2024 to £0.5m in 2025.

"The company’s level of borrowings was unsustainable, hence the asset disposal programme which we embarked upon," explained Mr Townsend.
