Planning battle to demolish former RNLI social club for new home goes to appeal

The bid to tear down a single-storey building used by Lowestoft RNLI Lifeboat Crew Association as a social club and build a contemporary home was submitted in October by a Mr and Mrs Powers.

The proposal sought to enhance and make "effective reuse of this currently vacant and deteriorating site," which is near the seafront and close to a County Wildlife Site on Links Road in north Lowestoft.

But the plans were blocked by East Suffolk Council in December.

The council's case officer said: "This proposal is not a suitable infill development for new residential development in the countryside”.
