Saga of 'explosive' cargo comes to an end as load reaches African destination

The load of ammonium nitrate first carried into the Norfolk port by the damaged ship MV Ruby has been taken to the Ivory Coast, in west Africa.

It brings an end to a saga which began more than six months ago, when the ship set off from Russia laden with the material, which can be explosive if it is contaminated.

The Ruby suffered damage in a storm soon after setting off, prompting her captain to sail into Yarmouth for repairs.

However, there it was discovered that around 300 tonnes of the cargo may have become contaminated by the ship's fuel oil, triggering a crisis as local officials became concerned it might blow up,........
