Builders merchants set to unveil changes to site
Additional parking will be created among the alterations to the Travis Perkins service yard on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate.
The building materials supplier took over the site at 2 Tower Road in Gisleham, Lowestoft in 2000.
Plans lodged with East Suffolk Council in February for an "amendment to layout of existing service yard, including additional parking and changes to external storage areas" were approved under delegated powers this week.
An application from agents MJM Consulting Engineers on behalf of the applicant Wilkinson was "permitted" on Monday.
With the site described as a concrete hardstanding, it contains a main building, numerous other buildings across the site as well as parking areas, loading bays and storage as it measures 1.86 acres (0.756 hectares).
A delegated report from the council's case officer said: "The site occupies a corner plot with frontages to Tower Road and Cooke Road.
"The retail unit has a floor area of 1,140sq m, which is split between 167sq m of office/sales area and 973sq m of warehouse/storage."
The proposals are "to reconfigure the parking layout and to create additional parking spaces – 18 spaces in total – and to construct a new external storage area."
With the main building in the centre of the site, it adds: "The proposed layout shows the retention of the one-way system within the site for vehicles and pedestrians.
"An additional loading bay is proposed to the rear of the site, and 12 parking spaces, plus one disabled bay, would be located towards the front adjacent to the main site entrance.
"The additional six parking spaces would be located at the front of the site currently used for open storage of materials."
With the increased parking provision alongside no changes in the use of the site as a builders merchants, or the opening times, the recommendation was to approve with conditions.
It adds: "The parish council recommends approval of the application and there are no third-party representations."
