Major retailers, including River Island, Primark and Poundland, have been forced to close stores already in 2026, with Revolution and BrewDog shutting bars across the country.

The international video game retailer, which was once the UK's largest of its kind with 300 stores across the country, went into administration this month owing more than £15m.

A shift towards digital shopping and a tightening retail economy pushed the business into administration in 2011, but it later collapsed again despite a return to profitability.

In the end, the company owed £15.8m when it was placed into administration, including £3.5m to the secured creditor and £12m to unsecured creditors.
