The aircraft involved in the mission took off from RAF Mildenhall as part of Exercise Point Blank, a training event focused on "the collective defense of the European region."

The 100th Air Refueling Wing supported the exercise by refuelling the 48th Fighter Wing's F-15E Strike Eagle and F-35 Lightning II aircraft.

It comes amid speculation that US President Donald Trump is going to carry out military strikes on Iran.

Last month President Trump cancelled talks with with Iranian officials amid a protest crackdown, telling Iranian citizens that "help is on its way".
