Self build would have 'unacceptable impact' say planners

The scheme submitted to South Norfolk Council in September last year proposed a self build property on land off Tower Hill designed to fit in with the area just outside Costessey.

However, the council had refused the plans saying the new house would have a negative impact on the landscape.

Planners at South Norfolk Council said: "The proposed development would have unacceptable impact on the natural landscape by virtue of erosion of the open countryside and not respecting the character of the River Valley landscape character area."

They also said: "The site is not considered adjacent to the settlement of Costessey by virtue of being separated by an undeveloped wooded area and being approximately 190 metres from the closest point of the development boundary."

The plans explain: "The proposal is for a single storey house which respects the semi-rural nature of the area by keeping the overall height of the building low.

"Architecturally, the dwelling combines contemporary expression with traditional materials."
