Norwich Apex Ltd, the company behind the scheme, said the noise produced by the site will be dealt with using acoustic barriers and silencers to lower noise to "acceptable levels" agreed with local planners. 

The firm also said the heat from servers will be mitigated by an air-cooled chiller system.  

Under the plans the data centre would be built in Ipswich Road opposite Tesco.  

Already more than 5,000 people have signed a petition against the scheme despite plans not even being submitted to South Norfolk Council yet.  

Those living near the site have raised concerns about noise and heat which could be produced by the facility, which would require 150MW of electricity.
