Firefighters at the scene said it was the worst blaze they have seen at the nature reserve for decades.

The main fire was tackled on Thursday, but crews remained on the scene for the coming days to ensure there were no hotspots which could have caused the heath to reignite.

The official stop message for the incident was finally received at 10.44am on Sunday.

However, the investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
