Maura Cottey, a member of the North Norfolk Wombles, stumbled on a pile of around 40 of the burrowing animals by the road just south of Bintree on the A1067 Fakenham to Norwich road.

She believes an unscrupulous pest controller must have chucked the moles by the roadside.

Mrs Cottey said: " I was surprised that someone who was obviously a professional paid to remove the moles had just thrown them on the verge.
