REVEALED: The Norfolk town where nearly one in 13 social homes have mould

Data released by Great Yarmouth Borough Council shows that 462 of its 5,802 homes were recorded as having damp and mould damage over the past financial year.

The authority is one of the last in the county to retain control over its housing stock, with all other Norfolk councils except Norwich City Council having transferred the majority of ownership to social housing providers.

Rupert Lowe, Yarmouth's MP, has described the figures as "appalling" and said poor housing quality was a frequent topic of casework in his constituency.

"The standard of housing in Great Yarmouth is appalling and it's a key factor in the amount of casework we are dealing with,” he said.

"Foreign nationals should not be entitled to social housing in Great Yarmouth or anywhere else.
