Villagers 'dismayed' as council drops objections to 52-acre quarry
The hugely controversial proposal in Haddiscoe was blocked by Norfolk County Council's planning committee last year amid fears about its impact on the nearby St Mary's church.
The developers appealed the decision to the government's Planning Inspectorate and a public inquiry was launched this week to determine whether the ruling should be overturned.
However, locals were blindsided when County Hall revealed at the eleventh hour it would no longer oppose the proposals.
