Norfolk river to be 'rewiggled' after 70 years
The Environment Agency is seeking to 'rewiggle' the River Tas in Forncett St Peter by reconnecting meanders that were disconnected in the 1950s.
It hopes the scheme will improve the "form, ecological value and biodiversity" of the river and has stressed the changes will not increase flood risk in the area.
This would make the Tas, which runs through south Norfolk towards Norwich, the latest river to be rewiggled - a growing movement to restore rivers to their natural meandering state, undoing centuries of human intervention to straighten them.
Many rivers have been straightened historically to make them more efficient........
