Man who climbed building to watch council meeting charged with obstructing police
Zak Marketis appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty following the incident which unfolded outside Thetford Guildhall as he was following proceedings inside from the ledge.
He is accused of trying to intervene while police were dealing with unrelated reports of an assault nearby.
Marketis is a member of a campaign group, Thetford Council Watch, which regularly attends meetings of the authority to raise topics such as climate change and vaccine use.
Having been banned from council meetings for "severe behaviour", Marketis attracted the attention of police when he climbed onto a window ledge at Thetford's Guildhall to watch in silence from outside.
Officers told Marketis to step down from the window due to concerns for his safety.
While outside the Guildhall, he is accused of wilfully obstructing a police officer who was attending an unrelated report of an assault in Cage Lane, on the other side of the building.
