Greens ditch candidate on eve of by-election following allegations from rival
Peter Carter, who was previously a Labour activist, is standing for the Greens in today's vote to elect a new Broadland councillor for Acle.
But the Greens revealed on Wednesday they had withdrawn their support from him, even though it is too late to remove his name from the ballot paper.
The party said it was investigating allegations made about his behaviour while he was working on Labour's campaign in Norwich during the general election last summer.
Labour, which alerted the Greens to its concerns in recent days, said it suspended Mr Carter last year, before he resigned and joined its rivals.
Sources have said he was accused of harassment and of directing unwanted attention towards Alice Macdonald, who is now the Norwich North MP, and a female Labour councillor on Norwich City Council.
Mr Carter, who is married and has a child, is understood to be "very upset" by the allegations but has declined to comment on them.
