BT given green light for 3m tall digital advertising screens in town centre
Great Yarmouth Borough Council has granted planning permission to BT to install the so-called “street hubs” on pavements at the Market Place, Market Gates, King Street and Regent Road.
Applications to install screens on Broad Row and outside the SeaLife Centre are still being considered.
The plans include the removal of 12 existing payphones across the town.

The street hubs are double-sided digital screens standing almost 3m tall and displaying advertisements.
They would also offer free Wi-Fi, free phone calls, device charging and access to council services via a touchscreen tablet.
Last year, plans to install street hubs in Norwich faced a backlash over safety, aesthetic and environmental concerns.
Campaigners and businesses said the screens took up space on the pavements, distracted drivers and had a negative impact on wildlife.
More than 900 street hubs have already been installed in towns and cities across the UK.
