While speed humps in roads are usually installed to slow down traffic, Norfolk County Council is set to build the raised tables in parts of Norwich to hold back and divert floodwater.

Council officials are set to spend £110,000 to install raised table humps in Beatrice Road, Florence Road and Marion Road in Thorpe Hamlet.

The raised humps at the junctions with St Leonards Road are designed to stop water rushing down the hilly side streets during heavy rain and to instead divert it into drains.

For years, those roads have experienced frequent flash flooding, with people left wading through shin-high water during major downpours.
