Norfolk women's pride after royal recognition on King's Birthday Honours list

Sarah Hassan and Rebecca Chapman were among the people from the county who were named on the King's Birthday Honours list.

Ms Hassan, who was made an MBE for services to public libraries, discovered she had been recognised by the monarch the day after she retired from a career with Norfolk County Council's library service spanning almost 40 years.

She said: "I was extremely touched to be nominated and to receive this award. I opened the letter the day after I retired, having spent a sunny day at Blickling amongst the bluebells and couldn't quite take it in - what timing and what a week!"

Ms Hassan joined the county's library service from Luton library in 1989, initially as the training officer helping to get staff up to speed on the new computer system which replaced the old ticket system for borrowing books.
